Skaapveld Syrah
An elegant and distinctive style of Syrah with well-rounded fruit on the palate and soft juicy tannins. Skaapveld refers to the grazing land for sheep that adjoins many of the Syrah vineyards in our region.
Serving
– Serve at a cool room temperature
– Pairs well with hearty meat dishes and barbecue
Tasting Note
A layered, medium-bodied Syrah. The bouquet is aromatic with gamey and liquorice aromas. The palate has mouth-filling blackcurrant and plum flavours with finely integrated tannins.
Winemaking
Fruit Source
Sourced from bush-vine and trellised vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region in Western Cape, South Africa.
Terroir
Mostly Malmesbury Shale soils. Malmesbury Shale has good water retention and the high clay content imparts minerality and fresh acidity to the wines.
Vinification
Fermentation took place over 5 days in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs. Before the end of fermentation, the grapes were pressed and put back into tank for malolactic fermentation. Fined and filtered before bottling.
Maturation & Oaking
100% of the wine was matured in older American oak barrels. Barrel maturation of 12 months overall.
